    The green, white, and orange tricolored Irish flag dates back to the early 19th century. The green color signifies the native Irish, the Catholic Nationalists of the south. The orange color signifies the northern Protestants, descendants of 17th-century British supporters of William of Orange. The white color signifies the peace and hope between the two groups.

    Officially the flag has no meaning in the Irish Constitution,[6] but a common interpretation is that the green represents the Irish nationalist tradition of Ireland (Catholics) and the orange represents the Orange tradition in Ireland (Protestants), with white representing peace between them.[7] The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the 'Green' and the 'Orange'.
