One of the strongest pieces of evidence that Yahoo Messenger slows down your computer is the wide array of fixes available online. Some of the flash advertisements attached to Yahoo Messenger take up a lot of working memory and can slow down or even crash computers, which is why most fixes revolve around not allowing the ad programs to run. No technical studies have been done to specifically see if Yahoo Messenger slows down a computer. In addition, arguments could be made that more advanced computers can handle the flash ads, and so it's the computer age that matters, and not Yahoo Messenger. All instant messengers are designed to boot up automatically when the computer does, which helps clutter up computers by adding more "processes" that take up the working memory. Also, there is no argument at this point that the flash ads that come with Yahoo messenger take up a lot of memory and can easily slow down most average household computers. On One Hand: There Are Fixes Online
On the Other: No Technical Studies Have Been Done
