1-800-Charity Cars is a nationwide program but also has a chapter in Illinois that has partnered with The Auto Parts Bumper to Bumper Campaign. This charitable organization provides free vehicles to a wide array of individuals and families who are referred to them by social service agencies. Applicants are qualified based on need. If you are a family in a shelter, are a victim of domestic abuse, or have fled a natural disaster, you may contact either the shelter or social service agency that you are working and ask them to put you on the list of recipients for a car. The most needy receive cars first. If you are not currently working with an agency, you may also call 1-800-Charity Cars directly who then you start you on the process and, depending on your need, refer you to the agencies they are currently working with.
Online Car Donation takes donated cars in good or non-running condition, makes any necessary repairs, and donates them to single parents or families who need transportation for work. They also sell vehicles and donate the proceeds to different causes. This company makes it very easy with free towing and a very simple donation process. You simply go to the application page on the website and fill out the form. It requires your full name, the state you reside in and a brief explanation of your needs. Online Cars will then contact you after they have received and reviewed your application. They ask that you do not call them to inquire because their staff mans the phones specifically to accept as many donated vehicles as they can. Operators work the switchboards live seven days a week. You may visit the website for more information.
Willowcreek Community Church in Elgin, Illinois has a program called C.A.R.S. This outreach ministry provides used cars to needy individuals and families who have no access to reliable transportation. It is important to note that they prefer to reach out to those who attend their church and are part of their ministry community. Each week they have about 100 volunteers who repair the donated cars. But after calling and asking about the necessary qualifications, they indicate that if you truly qualify and do not attend their ministry but are in dire need, they will direct you to alternative help in the community. These people are very approachable and truly care. When you visit the website, click on the "OUTREACH" tab to see if you meet the qualifications. C.A.R.S. Is located at: 1480 Sheldon Drive Elgin IL 60120 and can be reached at (847)765-5000.
