I smoked for for about 15 years took the anti-smoking drug Zyban. You are supposed to take it for about 3 months, but I lost the craving in one.

smoked marlboro for 22-24 years. at 15 i quit for 5-6 months, than at 21 i again quit for 5-6 months, than at 27 for 2 years, than finally after 20 years of trying i quit using bupropion(welbutrin)it killed the desire, at the ripe old age of 35. i had to cause i had chronic coughing and the pain was unbearable. it's been 5 years now and i still have problems with my esophagus and coughing, but no cravings at all for cigarettes.

I gave up in 1996, and did so after trying for years beforehand, by means of nictoine nasal sprays. They just took the edge off the craving so that my willpower had a chance to work. It took six months to come off the sprays, but I still experienced an intermittent craving for years afterwards. Even now I sometimes get a craving, but it is fairly weak in comparison, and it doesn't last long.

    Method:
Quit bringing the smokes to the lips, quit lighting up. Used willpower.
    How long it took:
Fifth try over the course of 4 years.
Desire was never gone, just weaker over time. Continued to smoke in dreams, even 29 years later.
