Is there any safe way to rig your thermostat so that other people in the house wont turn it on and leave it on?

    I did this:

    Installed and connected a new thermostat in my bedroom.

    Disconnected the downstairs one, but left it on the wall.

    Kids fiddled with it all they wanted, and never did realize it was not connected.

    I recommend it. You might want a qualified service person to set it up, and make sure no one else is home when it happens though.

    There are also programmable ones, but that won't keep people from messing with it.
