<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Bar-Style Light Placement Varies
The majority of vanity lights are bar styles. That is where a bar houses several lights horizontally over the vanity mirror. The height in which to hang these lights varies according to mirror type. If your mirror does not have a frame, then the bar on the light should touch the mirror. If the mirror has a frame, then leave 1 inch or 1 1/2 inches between the bar and the mirror frame.
On the Other: Consider Alternatives
If the measurements needed for a bar-style light won't work in your bathroom, recessed lighting and ceiling-hung lighting are common choices. Another alternative is to mount a light at each side of the mirror, a little above eye level.
Bottom Line
However you decide to hang your vanity light or in which way, one thing to keep in mind is that the closer in front of the mirror the light bulb sits, the brighter the room will be due to the reflection of the light off the mirror.
