Help answer this question below.
I am a junior in college, and have finally found the career that I'd like to pursue. But I'm not exactly passionate about it. I feel very interested in it, and the level of interest has never wavered. But there have been times in the past where I have been interested in pursuing other career options, and I've had this wave of euphoria.
Should I take this lack of blinding happiness as a sign that maybe I've found the right choice? Or should I be wary with the fact that I just feel 'content'?
I think you have it backwards, you should pursue what you are passionate about as a career (if possible).
When I was 20 years old I was working full time for a large grocery chain and going to school part time. There were a couple things that interested me, but nothing I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. I ended up getting a degree in Social Science, but I'm still running a grocery store. Over the past year or so, I discovered something that I am passionate about (I'm 31 years old now, I've been looking for a while). History. I hated history throughout high school, but now I'm back in college pursuing a second degree so I can teach history.
My point is that you shouldn't give up on finding a passion. In this day and age, people have multiple careers all the time. If you find something that you are interested in, and good at, pursue it. Perhaps you will develop a passion, or perhaps you will find something else. Remember, you are not stuck in it for life.
I sure hope so.
If you have a passion for the career you pursue, you will go much farther in your career and in life. Things will fall into place for you. However, until you find what that is, don't give up on the career you have. You may even be able to do two things at once, what you love and what pays well, until what you love falls into place well enough to live on. Watch for doors to open and don't be afraid to walk through them.
