Help answer this question below.
It's not so much blatant corruption as it is apathy that so called elected officials are now bought and paid for by corporate concerns and there is nothing average citizen can do about it other than to just die and opt out of life as we know it.
BOTH parties are guilty of it. They go to Washington perhaps with good intentions (very few if any ever actually do that), but now once there the ONLY thing they will vote on is whatever will get them re-elected and of course they always claim they're voting their conscious. Of course they are. Their conscious is about them getting re-elected and nothing more.
I don't know if Washington is more corrupt than before or our media are just better at reporting it. It seems that no matter who is in charge, everything is always the same..nothing changes. They serve themselves, not us. Happy Saturday! :)
Lucky corruption is in Washington only. In our Country (India) Corruption rules the country with its all pervading grip. All dynastic Politicians are running the "democracy" with ill earned money.
No more than it ever has...for either America or any other country.
Corruption was foremost in our founding father's minds as they crafted our Republican government.
(If anyone out there is offended because I said "Republican government" in stead of "Democratic government", I suggest you hit the books and study this a while. It's NOT about the modern political parties, for one.)
They understood the need for checks and balances...and evidence of this is in every aspect of how they established our government. Those who don't understand this, and who fail to utilize these facts, relinquish their power to the politicians...and, in fact, become part of the problem instead of part of the solution.
I don't know that it's "smothering" our future, per se, but it DEFINITELY makes Americans feel "jaded"!
