Fashion can neither prove nor disprove anything. Some set fashions, others follow them. Some fashions express valour. Some express vanity. Some who set fashions do so with valour, and others, wanting to appear valorious but lacking actual valour, will copy the valorious-appearing fashions out of mere vanity.
For some, to admire oneself is difficult. These must overcome their lack of self-esteem with courage, and so these achieve vanity, if you like, by valour.
Depends, also, on the definition of vanity. Vanity can be synonymous with "futility" and well as mirror-gazing.
When all is said and done, fashion is a medium of expression. Your question, therefore, might be similar to "Has language proved there can be truth in lies?" and the answer is, of course, "Depends..."
