Pop music is crafted in such a way that melodies get stuck in a listener's head. Songs are purposefully designed to make people want to listen again and again. If a person were to place a lot of pop music on an iPod, the chances of a music addiction would be heightened. The more catchy the music, the greater the chance of addiction; meaning, the more likely the listener will want to hear the music multiple times.

On the Other: Addiction Isn't Common

Owners of iPods use them to listen to music. As long as the battery is charged, there isn't a rule as to how many times a person should listen to a given song. Most iPod owners use their devices as supplemental entertainment (to use while working out at the gym or driving a car, for example). Deciding to turn an iPod off (in other words, not listen to the music) is easy.

    Bottom Line

If an iPod does cause an addiction to music, it is nothing to worry about. The main purpose of an iPod is to play music. If you find you are listening to too much music, simply turn the iPod off for a while. There aren't withdrawal symptoms if you stop listening to music (as there would be in the case of an alcohol or drug addiction).
