<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Usually Safe
Many people use dog runs to help their dogs get exercise and socialize with other dogs. Though the dogs are let off leash in a dog run, the area is fenced in and secured so they have a safe space to play. If your dog plays well with others, the dog run should be a fun experience.
On the Other: Problems Are Possible
Though dog runs are mostly safe for dogs, they can be hazardous for children and anyone else who might collide with a dog or get bitten. Establishing a dog run or dog park can often be controversial because of waste problems and the potential for injuries. If the run is not properly fenced in, dogs can escape and run away. Also, not all dogs will play nice.
Bottom Line
Make sure the dog park is safe and secure before letting your dog off its leash; watch out for dogs that might not get along with yours. Keep yourself and children out of harm's way, and your experience at the dog run should be a positive one.
