Adrenal fatigue is often characterized by extreme exhaustion, and may occur after an upper respiratory illness. It is important to learn to recognize the different symptoms of adrenal fatigue, so that it can be correctly treated.
Identification
The adrenal glands are located on the top of the kidneys. The function of the adrenal glands are to release certain hormones. These hormones help our bodies to deal with stress.
Symptoms
Some of the most common symptoms of adrenal fatigue are depression, fatigue, low blood sugar, dizziness upon standing, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, skin changes, hair loss and pain in the joints and muscles.
Causes
The most common causes of adrenal fatigue are stress and anxiety. Stressful events such as marriage trouble, having a baby, getting a new job or unemployment may cause adrenal fatigue.
Medication
Certain medications such as arthritis medication and synthetic steroids may cause adrenal fatigue. This is especially troublesome if medication is stopped suddenly. People that use stimulants such as weight loss products, may also suffer from adrenal fatigue as a side effect.
Prevention/Solution
Rest is important for people that suffer from adrenal fatigue. People that push themselves without proper amounts of sleep can place stress on the adrenal glands. Reducing stress will also help give fatigued adrenal glands a chance to rest and recover. Avoiding caffeine and other stimulants is also important in adrenal health.
