  • The stage of a woman's life known as menopause generally occurs in her late 40s or early 50s. Some women will not exhibit signs of menopause until later, perhaps in their 60s or 70s. This is known as late menopause.

    Hormone Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy is one of the more common treatments for late menopause. This treatment addresses the disruption of hormone production, usually estrogen, that occurs during late menopause.

    Herbal Therapy

Certain herbs are reported to be helpful in dealing with symptoms of late menopause. Black cohosh is used by some women because it seems to help with hot flashes. Its short-term use is supported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

    Foods

Some foods are recommended for treatment of late menopause. Green leafy vegetables and whole grain breads, cereals and pastas are among those choices. Removing processed foods from the diet is also recommended.

    Regular Sleep Cycles

The changes that occur during late menopause can be taxing. A late menopausal woman should get sufficient sleep at regular intervals to help recharge her body and cope with symptoms.

    Exercise

Some amount of regular physical exercise is also helpful. It need not be strenuous, but keeping the body's circulation and respiration at its optimum can help reduce the stress of late menopause.
