The Chihuahua dog breed is extremely small and has grown in popularity thanks to the Taco Bell franchise. If the Chihuahua is socialized at an early age it can be a perfect house guest and tolerant of small children and other dogs.

According to the website Dog Owner's Guide, Chihuahuas have a tendency to be very "clannish" and to distrust anyone except for their owners, or the alpha in the household. This type of wariness can put an overeager toddler in danger of being bitten by the dog.
Bottom Line
A Chihuahua is a very cute and smart breed. Its loyalty makes it a good fit for a single man or woman. As for a household with a small child in it---the Chihuahua is not the best dog breed.
