Goat-milk shampoo bars are processed using goat's milk instead of, as their producers claim, unnatural or "harsh" chemicals. On a practical level, goat-milk shampoo bars do the job of getting your hair clean, and scented products will leave you smelling fresh. Compared to other "all natural" soaps, goat-milk products are also relatively inexpensive.

On the Other: Commercial Soap Works for a Reason

The problem is that goat-milk shampoo providers make claims about their products that have not been scientifically tested. The so-called harsh chemicals that go into commercial haircare products are used because they have been clinically proven to work. Ammonium lauryl sulfate is a clean detergent that interacts with body oils positively; tetrasodium EDTA reduces calcium buildup; and cocamidopropyl betaine interacts with many ingredients of shampoo to make them even milder on the skin.

    Bottom Line

Goat-milk shampoo bars are a good buy if you want to support independent soap manufacturers, or if you're trying to create a specific holistic atmosphere in your bathroom. However, while the bars are functional, they simply don't have the documented and carefully tuned composition of commercial haircare products which are, moreover, generally cheaper.
