  • The proper length for a lacrosse stick (called a "crosse") varies by player gender, age and position, according to U.S. Lacrosse, the sport's governing body. In men's lacrosse, the "short stick," used by middies and attackers, must be 40 to 42 inches. The "long stick" may be from 52 to 72 inches. Defense men, long stick middies and goalies use the long stick. In women's lacrosse, all sticks are 36 to 44 inches. In boys' lacrosse, legal sticks range from 37 to 72 inches. Girls' sticks are standardly cut to about 35 inches.
