Individuals can elect to have a colon cleanse to help eliminate waste and toxins. By removing this waste, an individual may experience increased energy, weight loss or a reduction in the occurrence of headaches, according to WebMD.
Initial Colon Cleanse Procedures
A patient will lie on a table and a doctor will insert a speculum that has two tubes attached to it into the patient's rectum. One tube will supply temperature-controlled fresh water into the colon. The other tube will aid in carrying the eliminated waste out of the patient's colon.
Water Flush
A machine or pump will flush approximately 15 to 20 gallons of water into a patient's colon via the speculum.
Massage
A doctor or therapist will massage the patient's abdomen. The massage will focus on particular pressure points to help loosen waste.
Removal of Fluids
The doctor will flush out the fluid and waste through the speculum.
Repeat
The process may be repeated until the doctor has determined the colon has been flushed adequately. The entire process may take anywhere between 45 minutes to one hour.
