  • Marble makes beautiful counters or tabletops. Marble comes in many different colors and is fairly easy to keep clean and stain free. The only problem with black marble is that it has a tendency to look dull or streaky when cleaned improperly. Use these same methods for cleaning marble in the kitchen, in the bathroom and in the entryways of your home.

    Hot Water

Clean your marble using hot water and a clean rag only. Use water that is as hot as your hands can stand it. You can put on rubber gloves to help protect your hands if desired. Some chemicals are very harsh and can ruin marble. While vinegar, lemon juice and other natural acids are great for cleaning many things in your home, do not use these on marble. The acids will damage the finish of the marble. Hot water also dries quicker than warm or cool water. A quicker drying time decreases the amount of streaks greatly.

    Window Cleaner

Use window cleaner if you do feel you need some sort of cleaner. Spray down the surface well and wipe thoroughly with clean paper towels. Make sure to completely remove any wet marks, as they will leave streaks on your black marble. You can use the window cleaner full strength or diluted in hot water. Make sure to use the brand name window cleaner and not a cheap knock-off, as they have more tendencies to streak than better quality cleaners.

    Rubbing Alcohol

Disinfect your black marble tile by using rubbing alcohol. Use clean paper towels or rags to apply it and rub until the tile is dry. Rubbing alcohol will get rid of any germs, but will also dry quickly, leaving your marble streak free.

    Marble Restorer

Polish your dull floors with a marble restorer. Sometimes marble tiles are dull and scratched from a lot of use. You can make them look like brand new again. Purchase a reputable marble restorer from your local hardware store. Follow the manufacturer's directions to brighten up your marble.

    Green Pads

Remove stubborn dirt and soap scum with a green pad. Green pads are mildly abrasive, but do not scratch the finish of your marble, either. Use these once in a while to give your black marble tile a really good cleaning.
