  • The iPod is a handheld device for digital media. There are many different generations, sizes and styles of the iPod, but they all have the same recreational purpose. The iPod was created by Apple in 2001.

    Music

The main use of an iPod is to store digital music files (MP3s) for listening while on the go. Hundreds to thousands of songs can be kept on an iPod.

    Video

With the evolution of iPod generations came the ability to watch video. Music videos, TV shows and entire movies can be viewed on all new iPod models.

    Pictures

Newer iPod models have full-color screens that can store digital pictures. All album cover art is copied into an iPod's library upon upload, but personal pics can be stored as well (every model except the Shuffle).

    Other Files

iPods may be used as digital storage devices. Though some files cannot be accessed on the iPod itself, the device may act as a USB drive for digital files. iPods also play video games.

    iPod Touch

The iPod Touch is the newest style of iPod, which came out in 2007. It can connect to the internet, play audio without headphones, multiple applications and perform the same functions of an iPhone with exception of phone service.
