Synthetic oil is worthwhile if you have a high-performance engine, such as those in BMWs, Corvettes and Audis. Synthetic oil is also recommended if you live in an extremely cold climate because it circulates better. In general, synthetic oil holds up better than conventional oil so you do not need to change the car's oil as often.
On the Other: But Not Most
If you do not have a high-performance engine or live in an extremely cold climate there is no advantage to using synthetic oil. It does not reduce wear and tear on the normal engine or extend the life of the engine. Also, it is more expensive than conventional oil, so you must compare the cost of spending more for oil, even it needs to be changed less often.
Bottom Line
Synthetic oil is only worthwhile if you have a car with a high-performance engine or live in an extremely cold climate. An ordinary car with an ordinary engine does not need or gain anything from the use of synthetic oil.
