  • A website allows you to have a space on the Internet that is your very own. A website can be used to advertise, blog, inform others, show pictures or display activities. A website is also very useful for people who have a product or service to sell. Websites may seem like a lot of work to put up especially for people who do not know much about computers. However, creating your own website on the Internet is not as difficult and daunting as you may think. Creating a website can be achieved by following a few simple steps.

    Setting Up Website

Select a domain name. A domain name is the name of the website and is its address on the Internet. Domain names must be registered and you also have to pay an annual fee to use the name. Your domain name must be unique and cannot be the same as any other domain name that exists already. You will also need to choose a company to be your web host, which is the company that provides server space for your web page. The next step is to point the domain name to the web host account.

    Designing Website

Design your website and fill it with content. One way to design a website is to use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) approach, which is used much like a word processor is. The Internet is filled with web editors that can be bought or can be used for free that you can use to design your own website. As you work on your web design you should be testing it along the way using various browsers to make sure that your web design can be used on different types of browsers. If you plan to use your website to make money you need to secure it to make sure that credit card information does not get in the wrong hands, otherwise you can set up a "buy it now" link with Paypal to receive money that way. You then need to make sure that your site is accessible through search engines, such as Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, Bing. You can get your site noticed by advertising on various sites that have lots of traffic. You can even use social networking sites, such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace to bring attention to your website and get it noticed.
