Smoke curtains are often used by firefighters to contain the spread of smoke when doors or hatches are opened, and smoke might otherwise escape. Doors that have been damaged and are no longer sealed properly may also require the use of smoke curtains to keep smoke from spreading.
On the Other: Smoke Curtains Used By Smokers
The term "smoke curtain" is also used to describe a barrier used to keep cigarette smoke away from those who do not smoke. Many workplaces and school campuses have smoke curtains to contain smoke, giving people the opportunity to smoke where they might not otherwise be able to without offending nonsmokers.
Bottom Line
In every application, smoke curtains are required to prevent smoke from moving from one area into another. Since smoke moves with the flow of the air, it can be difficult to contain smoke otherwise; therefore, the use of smoke curtains is critical in situations like those described above.
