  • Cleansing can refer to a number of processes, ranging from household cleaning to personal hygiene. However, in most cases the term "cleanse" is used to describe a process designed for removing bodily toxins. There are many types of medical cleanses, each tailored toward purging specific body parts of toxins.

    Colon cleanse

A colon cleanse is a medical procedure designed to alleviate constipation and remove toxic colonic build-up. While colon cleanses are useful for some patients, the Mayo Clinic cautions that colon cleanses may lead to dehydration or other complications.

    Kidney cleanse

A kidney cleanse focuses on removing calcium build-up in the kidneys. This build-up can cause kidney stones if untreated. According to Cure Zone website, natural cleansers like watermelon seed tea and celery seed tea are used for cleansing.

    Lymphatic cleanse

Pushing toxins out of the body's lymph nodes is often used to promote overall health. To cleanse the lymphatic system, a lymphatic drainage therapist performs a massage focused on the lymph nodes.

    Digestive cleanse

Whereas colon cleanses specifically target the colon, a digestive cleanse is designed to cleanse the entire gastrointestinal tract. Digestive cleanses are typically performed with natural teas and herbs.

    Foot cleanse

Foot cleansing uses pads soaked in natural detoxifying agents designed to draw bodily toxins out through the soles of your feet. While many use this method of cleansing, there is little research to confirm its effectiveness.
