  • RAW and PEF files are very vague in how to open and print, as their creators, Pentax cameras do not allow their files to associate with many other programs. The only known program that can view and print them, other than the Pentax programs themselves, is Photoshop, the leader of the graphic design industry. Using either of these programs will allow for easy accessing and printing.

    Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is the graphic design industry's leading creation program and, because of this, works very closely with camera and photo companies to make integration of their products seamless. Since early Photoshop models, Adobe and Pentax have had a working agreement that Photoshop would support the RAW and PEF file extensions in their programs. To open either file extension in Photoshop, you can right-click on the file and go to "Open With..." Photoshop should show up in the Recommended Programs list but, if not, go to "Browse" and find the application in the subsequent window. It will then open the program up and show you the file, available for print. Go to "File" and then "Print." You can also open Photoshop and then go to "File" and "Open." An Explorer window will appear where you can find your file and open it inside Photoshop. Once it is open, go to "File" and then "Print" to print out the photo.

    Pentax

Pentax also provides programs and applications for your camera that either came with your camera or are available on the Pentax site. These programs will allow you to open the images inside it and print them by going to "File" and then "Print." Their Photo Laboratory program can also work to help with photo settings such as light, darkness and balance before you print your photos.
