Pain in the front of the thigh can be caused by a variety of conditions or traumas. See your doctor if you experience chronic front thigh pain, as it may indicate a serious condition.
Osteomyelitis
An infection in your bone, a condition known as osteomyelitis, is caused by an infection spreading through the bloodstream or from tissue around the bone. Osteomyelitis commonly affects your body's long bones, such as the femur. Sufferers of osteomyelitis may experience front thigh pain and swelling, fever and fatigue.
Osteosarcoma
Bone cancer, or osteosarcoma, also most commonly affects the long bones. Sufferers of osteosarcoma in the thigh may endure front thigh pain, tenderness of the thigh, weakened bones which can lead to breaks and fatigue.
Fracture
Fracture of the neck of the femur can cause pain in the front of the thigh. When you experience a trauma to the front of your thigh, it can cause a break in the bone.
Contusion
A common occurrence during sports, a contusion of the quadriceps muscles on the front of the thigh causes pain.
Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis, a narrowing of an area of your spine, puts pressure on the nerves and causes pain or numbness in your leg.
