  • Spray foam insulation is being used more often for insulating both large areas, such as attics and walls, and smaller areas that are harder to fill completely with traditional insulating materials.

    Attics

Spray foam insulation can be used in attics just as fiberglass insulation is used. The foam is sprayed on the inside of the roof sheathing between the joists, on the inside of exterior siding between the studs, and on the top of ceilings between the joists.

    Walls

Spray foam insulation can be used for interior and exterior walls in the house. It is sprayed between the wall studs, and can also be used in ceilings of rooms between ceiling joists.

    Windows

Spray foam insulation can be used to seal window frames as well. This can be done when a window is installed before final trimming, or can be used on existing windows by drilling holes near the window for spraying.

    Floors

A layer of spray foam insulation can be used as part of the underlayment before a floor is installed. It can also be applied under an existing floor in some cases.

    Other Uses

Any opening can be sealed with spray foam insulation. Gaps under eaves or in foundations where pests gain access can be filled. Plumbing pipes that run through walls and floors can be flanged with it as well.
