  • Periodic violent attacks on humans, including one in 2005 in California, where a man was maimed by two chimps at an animal sanctuary, and one in 2009 in Connecticut, where a woman suffered life-altering injuries, are reminders that chimpanzees possess brute strength and are stronger than humans.

    Arms

In tests conducted in the 1960s, a chimpanzee exerted twice as much strength as a human when pulling weights. In the wild, chimps use their arms to climb trees.

    Legs

In a study reported in the journal "Proceedings of The Royal Society B: Biological Sciences," evidence after experimentation showed that apes jump one-third times higher than humans because of superior muscle performance. They can also run faster than humans.

    Muscular Structure

A chimp has longer fibers in its skeletal muscular structure, which allow it to have a wider range of motion and to exhibit more strength. A full grown chimpanzee is five to six times stronger than a human being, according to JaneGoodall.org.

    Jaw

Chimps have an active gene for strong jaw muscles called MYH16, which humans lack. Chimps use their jaws to tear into their food, including raw meat.

    Nervous System

According to biologist Alan Walker, humans have more control over their nervous system and therefore their muscles. Chimps, however, use all their strength at once and lack motor skills to control their muscles.
