<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: They Offer Added Sun Protection
Sun-protective swimsuits are made of fabric with a tighter weave, making it harder for the sun's rays to penetrate through to your skin. Also, sun-protective suits tend to offer more coverage than regular swimsuits, with longer sleeves and shorts and higher necks, protecting a greater area of your body.
On the Other: They Aren't a Substitute for Sunscreen
Sun-protective suits aren't meant to be a replacement for sunscreen, since they don't stop the sun's rays entirely, but only slow them down. A good, strong sunscreen will still be necessary if you're out in the sun for any considerable length of time.
Bottom Line
If your skin is sensitive to sunscreen lotions and sprays, sun-protective suits may help you use a little less sunscreen and still have fun in the sun. Moreover, since it's very important to protect children's delicate skin from UV rays, consider sun-protective swimsuits for your children.
