  • Being pregnant and having children can be one of the most rewarding experiences life has to offer. Sometimes, however, nature does not cooperate. When this is the case, it is best to examine your sexual habits as they relate to when you are ovulating. If you continue to have trouble getting pregnant, it might be best to talk to your physician.

    Calendar

Watch your calendar. As simple as it sounds, one of the keys to getting pregnant is to track when you are most fertile. Start tracking over a few months when you cycle. Ovulation typically begins about 14 days after your last period started, but if you find your cycles are longer than the typical 28 days, subtract 18 from your shortest cycle. Then take the day your next period begins and add that many days. When you have determined when you are ovulating, have sexual intercourse.

    Body Changes

Your cervical mucus will change to a clear, slippery secretion before you ovulate. This secretion sometimes is described as a raw egg white consistency. At the end of ovulation, your discharge will be cloudy and sticky or you will have none at all. This is a simple, easy way of telling if one is about to ovulate, but it is also subjective. Have more sex regularly when you have pinpointed this period of time.

    Body Temperature

Watch your body temperature. Compare your body temperature when you are at rest throughout your cycle. Your temperature is about one degree higher than usual after a two- or three-day period when you are most fertile. For a month or two, take your temperature before you get out of bed each morning and chart the results. Find the spot in your 28-day cycle where it seems that your temperature increases. Once you have determined your warmest couple of days, make a date with your partner.

    Lifestyle

Have more sex on a regular basis over a long stretch of time. It sounds as simple as it is. Try to have sex once a day when your ovulating. You may miss for a month or two, but if you and your partner are healthy, you will get pregnant. Change your diet and lifestyle: Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep and do not smoke.
