  • Stainless steel cooktops are sleek looking and can make any kitchen look new and modern. Day to day care is also quick and easy. Stainless steel does require special treatment, however, in order to remove imperfections and maintain the shiny or buffed finish.

    Everyday Care

For everyday cleaning, simple soap and water will do the job. Wash the cooktop with a soft cloth, and wipe dry. If the cooktop is not visibly soiled, rinse with clear water, and dry thoroughly. For cleaning, be sure to remove all the soap to prevent dull surface buildup and streaking. To remove fingerprints, try warm soap and water or olive oil. Never use harsh abrasives on stainless steel. They will scratch the surface and invite rust to form. If you must scrub, rub only along the "grain" of the steel in the same direction as the finish. If you use cleaners besides soap and water, make sure they are formulated to use especially with stainless steel.

    Removing Stains and Scratches

Heat stains occasionally form when hot cooking utensils are placed on the cooktop. Club soda and a soft cloth should remove nearly all heat stains. Use as much club soda as needed, and rub the cloth in a circular direction. To remove corrosion and scratches, use a scrubber and cleaner designed for stainless steel. Test the scrubber and cleaner in an inconspicuous spot before cleaning the actual damaged area. Once the corrosion or scratches have been removed, polish the cooktop with a soft cloth to restore the shine or buffed finish.
