  • Everyone experiences occasional symptoms of an upset stomach, but frequent nausea is a symptom of various medical conditions, some of which are very serious.

    Diet

Many cases of frequent nausea can be attributed to improper eating habits. Eating meals too quickly--or eating meals with minimal nutritional value--can upset the stomach, resulting in nausea symptoms.

    Stress

Excessive stress can affect all parts of the body. Chronic stress or anxiety can disrupt the body's normal function and result in a variety of stomach ailments, including nausea.

    Migraines

Migraines not only result in painful headaches, but they also upset stomach symptoms. The connection between nausea and migraines is not yet understood. Theories submit that the intensity of pain could upset the stomach or that a chemical change in the brain triggers nausea. Those who suffer from migraines often may experience nausea frequently.

    Warning

Prolonged symptoms of nausea--accompanied by vomiting--can be a sign of a serious health condition that requires immediate medical attention. Nausea and vomiting are sometimes symptoms of heart attacks, kidney or liver diseases, brain tumors, nervous system disorders and some types of cancer.

    Other Causes

Frequent alcohol consumption can trigger frequent nausea. Women in the early stages of a pregnancy may also experience nausea and vomiting on a regular basis. Head injuries and concussions can cause nausea, which may be more frequent in people prone to those types of injuries. Serious conditions related to the gallbladder and pancreas often result in frequent nausea.
