WEGA was once a company that produced audio and video equipment. Sony bought WEGA in 1975. Sony started naming its televisions WEGA, and that is where the name comes from. Sony's newest TVs, which used the new LCD technology, were called WEGA and that is why it is referred to as WEGA technology. The WEGA line was renamed BRAVIA in 2005.
