Red ginseng contains antioxidants that help lower cholesterol and improve brain function.
Benefits
Ginseng is used to treat people with blood sugar disorders such as diabetes. The herb can lower blood sugar levels, but not to a degree that is dangerous.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, ginseng may help improve low sperm count and erectile dysfunction.
Immune System
Ginseng can give the immune system a boost. According to the Mayo Clinic, when used with antibiotics, red ginseng may improve healing times of infections.
Considerations
While ginseng is usually well tolerated, some people may have allergies or side effects such as a rash, diarrhea or headaches. The Mayo Clinic suggests that more studies be done before making any substantial recommendations about red ginseng.
