  • Because they usually hold a relatively large 4.7 GB, DVDs can store far more music than CDs. What's more, some DVD players and newer CD players will be able to play the songs right from the burned DVDs, allowing you to listen to songs for hours without ever having to change discs. If you're familiar with the process of burning a CD, you'll find that burning a DVD full of songs is almost exactly the same.

    Windows

If your Windows computer has a DVD burner and Windows Media Center, you can burn music to a DVD in a few easy steps. With a DVD in the burner, open Windows Media Center and scroll through to the "Tasks" menu where you'll see "burn CD/DVD." The program will recognize that there's a DVD in the drive and offer you DVD-specific options, making it very straightforward. Once you choose "Data DVD," you'll be asked to name the DVD and choose songs from your hard drive. From there, it's a matter of clicking "Next" and then you can burn the DVD with a single click. If your Windows computer doesn't have Windows Media Center, commonly available burning programs such as Nero or Roxio have user-friendly interfaces for burning data DVDs. You can also go right to your "Start" menu and access the DVD RW drive by clicking on it in the "Computer" menu, then drag files and folders directly onto it from any location on your hard drive. This doesn't offer as many options as using dedicated burning software, but it's not difficult.

    Mac

If you're on a Mac, using iTunes is a simple way to burn music to a DVD. Create a new playlist with all of the songs you want to store. From there, you can find the DVD-burning tool in "Preferences" in iTunes' top navigation. Once you click on the "Burning" icon, you'll be prompted to choose how fast you want to burn the DVD and whether you want to burn an audio CD or data CD/DVD. Since it's a DVD, you'll choose the latter option. Once you click "OK" on this menu, you'll be back in the standard iTunes interface, where you can just click on your playlist, select the "Burn Disc" icon, name the disc and click "OK." Your DVD will start burning immediately.
