Dentures are removable appliances which replace natural teeth and the surrounding tissue. You may be more familiar with complete dentures that replace a full set of missing teeth. Partial dentures are an option if you have one or two missing teeth but do not need complete dentures.
Identification
Partial dentures replace one or more of your natural missing teeth.
Features
Partial dentures, also called dental bridges, consist of a replacement tooth affixed to a pink-colored plastic base. This base, with a metal framework, keeps the partial denture firmly in place.
Fixed Partials
If you have more than one natural tooth missing in the same location, your dentist may suggest a fixed partial denture. This option is permanently attached to your upper or lower jawbone. Your dentist places dental crowns on it to replace your missing teeth.
Warning
According to the American Dental Association (ADA), it'll take you a few weeks to become used to wearing partial dentures.
Benefits
The benefits of wearing denture partials are a more pleasant eating experience, improved pronunciation and appearance.
