The Tallit is a Jewish prayer shawl. At the four corners of the Tallit are knots called tassels or Tzitzit. The Tallit itself has no religious meaning. Its only purpose is to hold the tassels.

According to the Torah, the Tallit's tassels are to remind everyone of God's commandments.

A Tallit is worn for morning prayers on all weekdays, including Sabbath and holy days.
Features
The Tallit, which is typically made from wool, can feature an artistic motif on the top to indicate which side should be worn down. The Tallit's tassels often feature a blue or black thread woven among the shorter threads.
Considerations
A Tallit is never worn for afternoon or evening prayers. Orthodox women also do not wear a Tallit. In some Ashkenazi communities, only married men wear a Tallit.
Fact
Jewish men begin wearing a Tallit following their Bar Mitzvah, which occurs on their thirteenth birthday. Jewish women begin wearing a Tallit following their Bat Mitzvah, which is their twelfth birthday.
