Jalapeno peppers provide a spicy kick to food dishes but can also leave skin with a painful burning sensation. If you have been afflicted, avoid touching sensitive places such as your eye, and use home remedies to relieve the pain.
Rubbing alcohol
The skin burns because of the oil in the jalapeno pepper. To remove the oil from your skin, apply rubbing alcohol to the burning area.
Dairy products
Calm the irritated area by soaking the skin in a dairy product such as milk. According to scientist Linda Bartoshuk, it is not clear why dairy soothes the skin, but scientific studies have proven it is effective.
Oil
If you don't have a dairy product in the house, wash the skin with warm, soapy water. Apply vegetable or olive oil and leave it for about a minute, then rinse.
Cold compresses
While a cold compress will not heal the burn, it will anesthetize the pain. Apply a cold pack or ice cubes or soak the skin in a bowl of ice water.
Time
Once the jalapeno pepper's oil have penetrated the skin, no home treatments will heal it. The pain will wear off in about 24 hours.
