<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Tungsten is Durable
Tungsten was established into the jewelry industry only a few years ago, and in that short time has become one of the most popular metals used in jewelry today. Tungsten is an extremely hard metal (10 times harder than 18-karat gold and four times harder than titanium) and very difficult to scratch. When it is combined with carbon, into the alloy tungsten carbide, it becomes the hardest metal known to man. The durability of this metal allows rings to resist scratches and maintain shine for a lifetime.
On the Other: It is Not Resizealble
Because tungsten is such a tremendously hard metal, it is impossible to have a ring re-sized. This poses a problem, as it is very common for a person's ring size to change over the years.
Bottom Line
When considering whether to use tungsten in rings, the pros outweigh the cons. The durability of tungsten carbide and its capability to maintain shine, overcomes the fact that the ring is not able to be re-sized (as re-sizing may not even be necessary, and many jewelers offer a warranty that the replaces the ring if it no longer fits).
