Quickstep originated in Britain in the 1920s. The dance was originally known as the fast foxtrot. Bands would speed up the music for foxtrot, forcing dancers to speed up their movements. Quickstep also has roots in the Charleston dance. In 1927, a couple danced a combination of fast foxtrot and the Charleston together during a dance competition, and the name quickstep was born.
