  • Since laptops weigh only a few pounds despite being able to perform most of the operations of the desktop computer, one might wonder how they are capable of this. You also may be curious about what kind of special features a laptop has.

    Laptop Screens

One of the ways a laptop conserves its physical space is through the use of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. It can also conserve battery power by using a variety of screen called OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode).

    OLED Facts

An OLED screen does not use an LCD's backlight to illuminate its screen, so its picture can have much darker "black levels," which means a sharper contrast of light and dark. OLED technology is also even lighter and thinner than an LCD.

    Touchpads

Another distinguishing aspect of a laptop is its touchpad, which simulates a mouse. You move your finger on it to move the mouse pointer on the screen.

    Component Integration

Laptops also manage their tight physical space by incorporating sound, video, and networking components directly into their main circuitry. The reduced manufacturing materials required can also make such circuitry cheaper to produce.

    Batteries

A laptop is designed to be mobile and usable far away from the presence of an electrical socket. This battery can be replaced if it gets run down before a recharge, and some laptops accommodate multiple batteries.
