Many colleges and universities require long research papers for graduation from a master's degree program. Higher education institutions vary on their requirements for doing the thesis, but all theses contain similar elements when they are written.
Introduction
The paper begins with an introduction explaining what question you researched and why this question is important to answer. Your thesis then is the answer to the question.
Background
The next section of your thesis features background information. The history of your topic and any terminology specific to the problem are included.
Literature Review and Research
The specific research and viewpoints about the problem you are examining appear next. Areas to explore include why the problem persists, how many people are affected and any solutions tried.
Methods
Master's degree thesis papers usually require you to do some original research. Explain what you did to answer the question and what research you conducted.
Discussion
Lay out your findings and compare it to what others have found. Explain the relationships or patterns you found and how they differ from other work.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Sum up your work and how you contributed to the study of this problem in the last section. Problems are rarely solved in one research study, so you also can propose what else can be done to answer the question.
