  • If you have thought of teaching overseas, China has a booming economy and is in dire need of teachers, especially English teachers. While some countries place high educational demands on teachers, China does not.

    Education

All you need to teach in China is a high school education or GED and to be over 18. However, you cannot teach in a state-run school or university without a four-year degree. Also, you may be able to command a higher salary or more benefits with a bachelor's or master's degree.

    Certifications

Several teaching certifications are available from state and private organizations, but you do not need any to teach at most places in China.

    Visas

China will not award a teaching visa, called a "Z visa" in China, unless you are sponsored by an authorized organization in China. Also, you must obtain the visa before you enter the country, or you will be in violation of the law.

    Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least six months upon entry into China.

    Other Conditions

You must obtain a health checkup and some medical tests to obtain a visa. Also, you will be required to submit to a criminal background check. You should understand the culture and conditions there before you go. Middle Kingdom Life is a website that will help you with this and other topics related to teaching in China. Also, keep in mind that education and visa laws change quickly in China.
