The gender of a baby can be determined at 16 weeks by an ultrasound, though this is usually done after 16 weeks. Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis can be done as early as 8 to 11 weeks, but pose risk of causing miscarriage. The earlier sex determination is done, the greater the chance for inaccuracy.
