  • Bison meat, also known as buffalo meat, comes from farmed American bison. Its taste and texture are similar to beef, but bison is leaner, yet with a richer taste. It's high in nutrients, low in fat, and environmentally friendly, too.

    High Iron

Bison meat is especially rich in iron, which helps the blood carry oxygen and nutrients to the rest of the body. Women often need extra iron intake, and bison has been recommended specifically to women as a good addition to their diets.

    High in Other Nutrients

Bison meat is also a good source of B-complex vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. Niacin, B12, and B6 all help support the metabolism and maintain healthy skin and organ function.

    Low Fat

Bison meat's protein content is about the same as beef, but it's extremely lean. Its fat content is lower than just about any other commercially available meat. This also means that bison meat is much lower in calories per pound than other meats.

    Hormone and Antibiotic Free

Bison are raised without the use of artificial hormones or antibiotics. The widespread use of antibiotics in raising meat animals has contributed to the rise of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria--including salmonella and E. coli, two common causes of food poisoning. There is also some evidence that the high levels of artificial hormones in conventional meat may disrupt human hormone systems and increase the incidence of certain forms of cancer.

    Environmentally Friendly

Pasture-raised bison not only taste good--they're good for the environment. Feedlots, where cattle are traditionally confined before slaughter, can produce a lot of environmental pollution due to the crowded conditions. Also, since bison ranchers don't use artificial hormones and antibodies, those compounds don't find their way into the water and soil, disrupting delicate ecosystems. Bison farming also helps preserve pasture land.
