<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Light Yellow is not as Desirable as Clear.
According to the Diamonds are Forever website, the traditional color for diamonds is white or colorless. However, diamonds are found in other colors, such as blue, black, pink, red, orange, green, brown and yellow. Some of these colored diamonds are very valuable. For yellow diamonds, the lighter the yellow, the more desirable the diamond is.
On the Other: Light Yellow is More Desirable than Dark Yellow.
The amount of yellow decreases the value of the stone. A faintly tinted or a lightly tinted diamond is yellow. The darker the tint, the darker the yellow of the diamond will be, turning almost brown. Yellow is caused by nitrogen in the diamond.
Bottom Line
The grading scale for diamond color ranges from D to Z. The D grade is colorless and the most desirable. The Z is the darkest yellow and the least desirable, according to Diamonds Are Forever. Do not confuse synthetic-colored diamonds with naturally colored diamonds. Synthetic stones are much cheaper than natural diamonds.
