Airbrushes are used for a variety of applications. Airbrushing techniques can be used wherever fine, controlled application of paints, inks and dyes is desired. Airbrushing is used for artwork, illustration, hobbies and crafts, clothing adornment, photographic touchup, and make-up application. Airbrushing allows application of great detail and subtle transitions between colors, which can be more easily done than with traditional brush techniques.
Multimedia
Airbrushes can be used to apply a variety of paints, including latex, acrylic, enamel and lacquer. Inks and dyes also can be applied with an airbrush.
Body brushing
Airbrushes are used for applying make-up, finger and toe nail designs, artificial tans, and even temporary tattoos.
Illustration and art
Illustrators and commercial artists use the highly controllable flow and realistic transitions achievable with an airbrush to do banners, advertising, publishing, graphics and illustrations. Airbrushes also are used to paint murals and custom clothing designs.
Photographic enhancement
Airbrushes have been used to repair, enhance and modify photographs long before computer digital software was available to manipulate images.
Hobby uses
Model builders use airbrushes to apply multiple fine layers of paint on models to achieve a realistic scale finish not achievable with hand brushing. The airbrush lends itself to special techniques such as weathering, staining and camouflaging.
Automotive
Airbrushing is used to make fine repairs to finishes and to apply custom designs to automobiles, motorcycles and trucks.
