Alzheimer's disease is the main type of cortical dementia. The other type of cortical dementia is called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

    Treatments

There are no cures for cortical dementia, but it can be treated to slow the symptoms as much as possible. Unfortunately, cortical dementia will ultimately result in death.

    Causes

Dementia can be caused by several different disorders. Chronic drug use, depression, infections in the central nervous system and human immunodeficiency disease (HIV) can all cause dementia.
