  • <h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Compact Air Purifiers Safe for Computer Area

According to Barb Ogg, PhD, HEPA air purifiers (non-ionizing) are effective for remove dust from the air thus easing allergy related symptoms such as chronic coughs and irritated bronchial tubes, especially for those with dust allergies.

On the Other: No Evidence of Computer Protection

While HEPA (non-ionizing) air purifiers may reduce dust from settling on a computer keyboard or computer monitor, there is no evidence to suggest compact air purifiers protect computers from dust-related problems such as overheating and poor performance. In addition, according to the California Environmental Protection Agency, some compact air purifiers that produce ozone---due to lack of maintenance---may produce too much ozone during operation which may actually be harmful to those in the computer area.

    Bottom Line

Compact HEPA (non-ionizing) air purifiers may be a great addition to computer areas for the humans that work there, but there is no evidence that compact air filters protect computers.
