Noxzema is a product used to treat mild to moderate acne. It is intended not only to treat acne but to help prevent future breakouts. The main active ingredient in Noxzema is salicylic acid. This is the ingredient that causes most of the dangers associated with the use of Noxzema.
Dry, Peeling Skin
Wherever you apply Noxzema, your skin may become dry and eventually begin to peel off. Since this product contains salicylic acid, which has exfoliant properties, it can cause dead skin to peel and can dry out live skin.
Burning Sensation
Noxzema products can cause a burning sensation because the main goal of this product is to open and cleanse the pores in your skin. As pores open and the chemicals that clean your skin are allowed inside, it can irritate your skin and cause the burning sensation.
Rash or Hives
Some users are more sensitive to Noxzema than others, and can break out into a rash or hives. Just as with any product that comes into contact with your skin, it is always possible that some of the ingredients will irritate your skin.
Swelling of the Face, Lips, Mouth or Tongue
More severe allergic reactions to Noxzema and its main chemical (salicylic acid) include swelling of the face, lips, mouth and/or tongue. All of these symptoms are serious; should they occur, you should seek medical attention.
Difficulty Breathing
One of the most serious potential dangers caused by Noxzema products' containing salicylic acid is shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. If you have difficulty breathing after using Noxzema, it is a sign that you are having a severe allergic reaction and that you should seek immediate medical attention.
