A link between certain hormones, mainly estrogen, have been shown to be a factor in the cause of migraines. Therefore, when a woman is pregnant, she is more susceptible to these types of headaches.
Occurrences
The odd thing about migraines is that if you typically get them, you may find you get fewer migraines or none at all while pregnant. This is due to the levels of progesterone and estrogen circulating throughout the body.
Trigger Foods
Whether pregnant or not, there are certain foods that are more likely to spark a migraine. Find out what foods cause these for you by keeping a food journal and avoid main culprits such as chocolate, cheese and foods containing MSG.
Stress
Pregnancy is a stressful time and can add to the stressors you already have in life. Be sure to take time out for relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation and massage.
Brain Chemicals
When you become pregnant, your brain functions change, and serotonin, which deters pain typically, may divert from its normal path and change the blood flow in this area
Sleep
Sleeping while pregnant is no easy task. Getting comfortable is often a problem and may cause one to not get enough sleep, so make it a point to get at least eight hours of sleep each night.
